Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Fatehpur- Shekhawati, Sikar was established in 1976 with the 15.24 hectare land and administrative building donated by Bhartia charitable trust under Shukhadia University, Udaipur and presently working under umbrella of Sri Karan Narendra Agriculture University, Jobner- Jaipur. It is located 50 kms away from district headquarter Sikar, in between Jaipur and Bikaner on the NH-52.

MANDATE & ACTIVITIES

The mandate of KVK is technology assessment and demonstration for its application and capacity development

  • To implement the mandate effectively, the following activities are envisaged.
  • ‘On farm testing’ (OFT) to assess the location specificity of agricultural technologies under various farming systems.
  • Front line demonstration (FLD) on various crops to establish production potential of technologies on the farmer’s field.
  • Capacity development of farmers and extension personnel to update their knowledge and skills on modern agricultural technologies.
  • To work as Knowledge and Resource Centre of agricultural technologies for supporting initiatives of public, private and voluntary sector in improving the agricultural economy of the district.
  • Provide farm advisories using ICT and other media means on various subjects of interest to farmers.
  • In addition, KVK produce quality technological products (seed, planting material and livestock) and make it available to farmers, organize frontline extension activities, identify and document selected farm innovations and converge with ongoing schemes and programs within the mandate of KVK.

  • THRUST AREA

    Considering the agro-climatic condition & inventorization of physical & human resources of the district, following thrust areas have been identified:

  • Enhancing productivity of pearl millet, green gram, cluster bean, cow pea during kharif and wheat, barley, mustard, chick pea during rabi.
  • Increasing the seed replacement rate through promoting seed production techniques.
  • Diversification of existing cropping system by promoting cultivation of vegetables and fruit plants such as ber, aonla, beal, acid lime.
  • Promotion of dry land farming technologies with emphasis on water harvesting.
  • Improvement in livestock production & productivity through better management practices.
  • Encourage the organic farming technology.
  • Upliftment of socio–economic status of downtrodden classes through vocational trainings.
  • Empowerment of women through drudgery reduction in agriculture and animal husbandry, improvement in the nutrition, health & hygiene by using improved techniques.

    District Profile

    Sikar is situated in North part of Rajasthan between 27021 to 28012 North latitude and 74044 to 75025 East longitudes. The neighboring district of Sikar are Churu in North West, Jhunjhunu in North East, Nagaur in South West and Jaipur in South East. Sikar is a rainfed and drought prone district situated in transitional plain of inland drainage zone IIa.

    Climate and rainfall : Owing to Sikar being situated in semi arid plains of Rajasthan, there is large variation in temperature during the day and night and also during the season. Maximum temperature goes beyond 450 c in the month of June and minimum temperature falls as low as 0.50 c in the month of December and January.
